the body of rectilinear form, extensively decorated with religious and other iconography, centering a large buttressed cathedral enclosed within an oviform frame, above moulded depictions of the head of Christ, flanked by St.John and St.Paul, alongside a ribboned inscription reading 'Peace on Earth, Goodwill towards Men' with contrasting depictions of gargoyles and grotesque figures verso, all raised on dragon and camel-form feet, set upon a rectangular giltwood base and enclosed beneath a domed glass shade, measuring approximately 50 x 32 x 42cm Note: central panel signed and dated 'Julius Mosely, 1850' verso - possibly Mosely of Wicklow Street, Dublin, a sculptor active around 1850, known to have produced 'allegorical representations of "Virtue and Vice" in alto-relievo' - Descriptive and Illustrated Catalogue, Great Exhibition, 1851, p.675
