Wife of Sir John Silvester, 1st Baronet (1745-1822), FRS, FSA, DCL, an English lawyer and Common Serjeant of London from 1790 to 1803, and Recorder of London from 1803 until his death in 1822.
She is most noted for her comments upon meeting in 1824 with the fossil finder Mary Anning - “The extraordinary thing in this young woman is that she had made herself so thoroughly acquainted with the science that the moment she finds any bones she knows to what tribe they belong… By reading and application she has arrived at that greater degree of knowledge to be in the habit of writing and talking with professors and other clever men on the subject, and they all acknowledge that she understands more of the science than anyone else in this kingdom.” - Lady Harriet Silvester’s diary, 1824.

Please note that due to the withdrawal of the Retail Export Scheme by HMRC, we are unable to provide VAT refunds documentation for hand-carried exports. In order to qualify for a VAT refund, your lots must be exported by a shipper
and valid exportation documentation must be provided.
PAYMENT TERMS
Payment is required by Wednesday 19th of June by debit card, BACS, Worldpay and cash (subject to money laundering regulations). Please note we do not accept credit cards or American Express.

BOOK A COLLECTION
Collection is by appointment only. You need to book a collection time by 4pm the previous day. Visit the website or follow the link on your invoice to book a collection time. Purchases not collected within two weeks of the sale date
will be held in storage and charged at the rate of £5+ VAT per lot per day. Please contact us if you require special arrangements to be made regarding storage.
