TW Gaze was established in 1857 by the eponymous Thomas William as a firm of agricultural valuers and auctioneers and evolved over 150 years to reflect changes in the rural way of life generally, and farming in particular. Therefore, gone are the livestock markets which were at the heart of the social and business life of the rural community for so long. Instead we have chattels auctions which still provide a forum for mixing business with pleasure on market days, residential and commercial agencies and the old core of rural valuation, management, farm and land agency.
The firm has grown, in particular over the last 20 years, from employing 20 members of staff to around 65 employees now over our three sites. The estate agency and rural professional business being run from 10 Market Hill in Diss and 33 Market Street, Wymondham and the Diss Auction Rooms based at Roydon Road also in Diss. The auction rooms in particular have grown beyond recognition where lamb sales were once held is now the car park and the outside sale area for the site and has been transformed into an internationally renowned auction rooms.
The future of the firm looks bright with the recently opened offices in Wymondham and plans afoot for improving the auction experience for all of our clients which we hope will enable the firm to continue to grow and improve. The auctions are regularly visited by the popular television programmes such as Bargain Hunt, Cash In The Attic and Road Trip. Property Auctions is also a growing area and we hope to see an increase in the number of properties that come to the market through this route.
The traditional method of Estate Agency remains a stronghold of the firm and this looks set to continue, supported by the current strong residential lettings market throughout East Anglia. The rural business supplies the backbone of the firm with our long-established clients and their children and grand-children will continue we hope to support us.
