Rough Meadow-grass (Poa trivialis) by Terre Spratt (1977) 2021 Limited Edition Signed & Numbered Giclée Print 1/50. Size A4. Printed on Hahnemühle Museum Etching 350gsm . Original in Pencil on Lightly Textured 120gsm Drawing Paper. Terre Spratt is now 62. Her formal education includes good grades at O’ Level in 8 subjects and 3 at A’ Level (Art, History & English) She completed a Foundation Year in Art & Design at Hornsey College of Art and went on successfully to complete a BA Honours Degree in Graphic Design often finding innovative ways of fulfilling set projects. She practiced Life Drawing, detailed pencil drawing, using coloured pencil as well as water-colour, pastels, charcoal and gouache and she enjoyed using oils on canvas: of late Arteza water-based Ink is of particular interest. In addition, working in Textiles has been a joy: a world in which she enjoyed creating patterns using shapes related to nature with swirls and movement. One piece, in the style of a Victorian Sampler, uses cross-stitch, cut work and beadwork in a large format Embroidery. Her approach is systematic and she painstakingly produces detailed work and has learnt woodcut and lino-cut art. At an early age she worked in paper sculpture with folding and cutting to create a 3D image. During her Degree her first interest in photography grew and she learnt how to produce excellent images. She always takes perspective, colour and light into consideration: and it has been commented how she has a particularly keen eye for design and balance in the finished image. Whilst studying she relished interpreting expressive and stimulating poetic text as well as visually descriptive novels. Her achievements include winning an Illustration Competition at 17 whilst a pupil at Highgate Wood Sixth Form College, N8, exhibited in Highgate Village and during her Degree she won a 3D Design Packaging Competition recognised throughout the Country and featured in France with excellent assistance in pricing: using an impish character to appeal to the young. She has exhibited several times for the ‘Waltham Forest Art Trail’ at the Pictorem Gallery and Gnome House in East London and ‘Artists of the Forest’ at Beulah Road Studio’s. She has photographic work adorning the walls of the Morgan Sindall Offices in Wood Street and Cedar Wood House E17, as well as on display at ‘Scoffs Café’ E4. She also drew bespoke pencil drawings for ‘Bunch Me Up’ in the Mall, E17 and has limited Edition Prints at the ‘Alexander Morgan Gallery’ Epping, Essex. Always drawing as a child, creating personal individually painted cards, each a work of art, she has a keen eye for observation and detail. It is through these individual mediums that she creates fantastic worlds; being atmospheric and emotionally moving. Whilst perusing earlier work it is clear the seed was sown for Nature playing an important role. Adhering to classical ideals she brings her work into the zeitgeist of now and is essentially respectful of ideas borne in her imagination, drawing from the skills and expertise of artists of the past.
