TSUKIOKA KINZABURO YOSHITOSHI (1839-1892) Moon of the Enemy`s Lair colour woodblock from `A. Hundred Views of the Moon` (no.42), 1885 with some discolouration and foxing Pl. 13 x 9in (33.1 x 22.8cm) This print depicts `Little Prince Usu` Aka Yamato - Take no Mikato. He was the physically strong and ruthless third son of Emperor Keiko, who reigned from 71-130AD. The many exploits attributed to Usu, are described in the Koliki & Nihonti, histories compiled in the 8th Century. In this print he is seen dressed as a Woman and concealing his sword. After his father has sent him to deal with a Kumaso rebellion, he infiltrates in disguise into the rebel`s camp and kills the two brothers who led the rebellion.
