A GROUP OF BOOKS FROM HARRY CROSBY'S LIBRARY. 4 works including: 1. BOUREAU-DESLANDES, ANDRÉ-FRANÇOIS. 1689-1757. Histoire de la Princesse de Montferrat. London: n.p., 1749. 12mo. Engraved frontispiece. Green morocco, covers ruled in gilt, spine lettered and decorated in gilt in six compartments. Corners and hinges rubbed. Provenance: Harry Crosby (morocco bookplate, Crosby's sun blind stamp to front free endpaper, autograph Harry-Caresse cross in Crosby's hand to rear free endpaper). 2. DEANE, JOHN BATHURST. 1797-1887. Worship of the Serpent Traced throughout the World.... London: J. Hatchard and Son, 1830. 8vo. 3 engraved plates one of which is folding. Calf, covers ruled and decorated with Crosby's Harry-Caresse crest in gilt, spine decorated in gilt, leather spine label, five raised bands. Front cover partially detached, front free endpaper partially detached, some foxing Provenance: Harry Crosby (morocco bookplate, his Harry-Caresse crest in gilt to covers). 3. BAIN, F.W. 1863-1940. A Digit of the Moon. New York and London: G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1910. 8vo. 4 plates including frontispiece. Blue cloth with gilt lettering and crescent moon to top cover and spine, Crosby's Harry-Caresse crest in gilt to lower cover. Light wear to edges, offsetting from bookplate to front free endpaper. Provenance: Harry Crosby (morocco bookplate, his Harry-Caresse crest in gilt to covers). 4. BARBUSSE, HENRI. 1873-1935. Le Feu. Paris: Ernest Flammarion, 1917. 2 vols. 8vo. ALS in French from Barbusse to Mme. Lilian Ashburton Thompson with envelope loosely inserted. Contemporary calf, covers stamped and gilt with Crosby's Harry-Caresse arms enhanced with astral scenery and the phrase 'ad astra per aspera' above and bibliophilic imagery and the phrase 'spes mea supra' below, spine lettered in gilt with five raised bands. Split to bottom of rear hinge of vol. 1, slight toning. Provenance: Harry Crosby (morocco bookplates, Crosby's sun blind stamp to front free endpapers, autograph Harry-Caresse cross in Crosby's hand to front free endpapers, autograph owner's inscription to front free endpaper, with his autograph annotations).
