Contemporary vellum, gilt lettering and green leather label with gilt lettering on cover, original printed wrappers bound in, later brown cloth slipcase. Light wear and staining to covers, stray marks to some pages. Provenance: Jonathan Goodwin, (his sale Sotheby's Parke Bernet, New York, 29 March 1977, lot 204) to current owner. SIGNED FIRST EDITION, numbered VI of 10 of copies on Vergé d'Arches paper, of a total edition of 200, this one signed by the author on the front free endpaper. WITH: MCALMON, ROBERT. 1895-1956. FIRST EDITION, 1 of a total edition of 200. Robert McAlmon was the son of a midwestern Presbyterian minister who served in the U.S. Army Air Corps after graduation from the University of Southern California, editing the Air Corps newspaper. After his military service he moved to New York, where he and William Carlos Williams co-founded Contact magazine, whose short run featured works by Ezra Pound, Wallace Stevens, and others. In 1921 he moved to Paris with his wife, Annie, and founded Contact Editions, publishing the work of Williams, as well as Gertrude Stein and Ernest Hemingway. His own works included several poetry collections, the novel Post-Adolescence, and the memoir Being Geniuses Together, which chronicled the 'lost generation' from his distinct viewpoint as one who was very much in the center of it all.
