NICOLAS MORELLI (1771-1838): AGATE CAMEO AND PEARL BROOCH, ITALIAN SCHOOL NICOLAS MORELLI (1771-1838): BROCHE CAMEE AGATE ET PERLES, ECOLE ITALIENNE • French import marks for 18 carat gold (750°/00) • Of oval design, centring on a carved agate cameo depicting a lady in profile, within a surround of half-pearls • Signed MORELLI on the cameo • Measurements: 5.80 x 4.50 cm • Gross weight: 51.22 grams Footnotes: OVERALL CONDITION: Good, one half-pearl is deficient, light scratches throughout. Please note that the pearls have not been tested for origin. Il est connu pour avoir été l'un des premiers professeurs de Benedetto Pistrucci et a été admis en 1812 à l'Accademia di San Luca. Nicolas Morelli (1771-1838) was a renowned Italian sculptor known for his exquisitely crafted cameos, carved from various hard stones such as agate and sardonyx. Morelli was distinguished by his anatomical precision and refined aesthetic sense, creating harmonious compositions. He is known to be one of Benedetto Pistrucci's first teachers and in 1812 was admitted to the Accademia di San Luca. His most famous patrons included Napoleon I and the Bonaparte family, Francis I of Austria and Count Sommariva.
