LI FANG (1933-2020) Sommerliche Rythmen 1968 signé et daté 1968 huile sur toile signed and dated 1968 oil on canvas 79 x 79 cm. 31 1/8 x 31 1/8 in. Co-founder and only female artist in the Fifth Moon Group, founded in Taiwan in 1956, Li Fang broke free from the rules of traditional Asian painting. Under the influence of Chu Teh-Chun, then a professor at Taiwan's national teacher training institution, Li Fang opened up to Western artistic creation in a post-war context conducive to dissidence. Li Fang's art is characterised by spontaneity of gesture, sharp vivacity, and vibrant flat tints of colour, a fusion of the inherited Chinese tradition art and the admired Western art. Her subtle, highly modern works have won over the most discerning collectors, as well as Asia's leading museums, including the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum M + in Hong Kong West Kowloon. The works we are offering at this sale have remained in the artist's collection, and subsequently in that of her children. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: * * VAT on imported items at a reduced rate of 5.5% on the hammer price and the prevailing rate on buyer's premium if the item remains in EU.
