1969 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow Chassis no. SRH5344 - Delivered new in Jersey - Photocopy of build file - Expertise from October 2024 confirming no defects - Swiss registration document 'In short: these cars combine advanced engineering and safety specifications with traditional Rolls-Royce standards of craftsmanship. In the manner of their performance they are as revolutionary as the Silver Ghost was 59 years ago', announced Rolls-Royce at the Silver Shadow's launch in 1965. The foregoing was no mere flight of fancy, for with the introduction of the Silver Shadow, Rolls-Royce brought its body/chassis engineering bang up to date by switching to unitary construction, while retaining all the hallmarks of a traditional hand-crafted product. The Shadow's all-round independent suspension and power-operated four-wheel disc brakes were both 'firsts' for Rolls-Royce, while the new styling appealed to the younger generation of Rolls-Royce owner-drivers more prevalent from the mid-1960s onwards. The existing 6.2-litre V8 continued in the Shadow until the need to maintain power while conforming to US emissions regulations saw it enlarged to 6,750cc in 1970. Notable prior developments had included the adoption of GM400 automatic transmission and air conditioning as standard. Ordered new in October 1968 by the Garage de Saint-Helier for its first owner in Saint-Brélade on the island of Jersey, this right-hand drive saloon example features a striking Sand exterior paired with a red leather interior. It was built to specifications for use in Jersey and is additionally equipped with air conditioning. The car is accompanied by photocopies of its original build sheet, detailing its specifications, assembly, and inspection records, as well as the Saint-Helier Garages invoice and its Warranty Acknowledgment document dated 30 January 1969. Acquired by the current owner in 2021, the car benefited from extensive maintenance and cosmetic refinements to both the exterior and interior. Its history file includes invoices documenting regular maintenance and work carried out since 2005, during which time the car was already in Switzerland. The car is offered with its original Swiss carte grise (cancelled registration document) and a Geneva state expertise certificate dated 17 October 2024, confirming no defects, issued when the odometer displayed 31,883 km. Please note that the front hood cannot currently be opened and requires attention. Please kindly note that this car will be available for viewing by prior appointment in STUDEN (SWITZERLAND): please contact lisa.salama@bonhams.com and nina.skunca@bonhams.com for booking. Saleroom notices: Please kindly note this car will be subject to VAT on the hammer price. Lot to be sold without reserve.
