c.1923 Flottweg 119cc Cycle Motor & Ladies' Bicycle Frame no. 3998 Engine no. 3998 'The Otto works produced Flottweg machines; the Otto name was used mainly in the late 1920s, when the factory built machines with 293cc and 198cc sv JAP engines.' – Tragatsch. Munich-based Otto-Werke built Flottweg motorcycles from 1921 to 1937 when the factory was sold to BMW. The first Flottweg-branded product was a 119cc four-stroke engine intended for bicycle attachment which was clamped to the steering head tube, driving the front wheel by chain. The first such machine was a utility tricycle launched at the 1921 Berlin Motor Show, the cycle parts possibly supplied by Wanderer. These early types were followed by the company's own overhead-valve models and then JAP-powered 198cc and 346cc OHV machines from 1928 to 1931. After a break in production, the firm returned with their own 198cc OHV models. This Flottweg-powered ladies' bicycle is offered with a book entitled Anleitung zur inbetriebnahme und instandhaltung. Ersatzteilliste (Instructions for commissioning and maintenance. Spare parts list). At time of cataloguing it had not been possible to determine whether or not the engine turns over. Key not required Footnotes: Please kindly note that VAT at the prevailing german rate (currently 19%) will be added to the buyer's premium which will be invoiced on a VAT exclusive basis. If you are planning to export, please make the department aware. Lot to be sold without reserve.
