1988 BMW 998cc K100RS 'Hossack' Frame no. 1008001 0006279 K100 Engine no. 104EA 1484 13471 Despite - or perhaps because of - the near ubiquity of the telescopic front fork, every so often someone will come up with an alternative, the most oft-repeated being designs featuring hub-centre steering or pivoting-links, the latter essentially similar to the pre-war 'girder'. The BMW K100RS offered here is fitted with pivoting-link front suspension developed by Scottish-born engineer Norman Hossack, although in this case the girder's traditional parallel links are replaced by upper and lower wishbones. Hossack was well familiar with wishbone-type suspension, having worked for the McLaren Formula 1 team during the 1970s. This suspension was successfully proven in club racing in the 1980s, and Hossack then moved on to offering conversions for street bikes, principally the BMW K100. Hossack's conversion for the K100 became popular in Germany where it received TüV Type Approval. In the 1990s BMW went on to release its own types of pivoting-link front suspension: the Telelever (single lower link) and Duolever (upper and lower links), the latter design based on Hossack patents. Currently displaying a total of 22,209 kilometres on the odometer, this Hossack-converted K100RS comes with a folder of information to include a manufacturer's brochure; TüV document; assorted correspondence; a German Fahrzeugbrief (registration document); and a magazine with article featuring the conversion. It should be noted that we have been unable to determine whether or not the engine turns over. Key not required Footnotes: Please kindly note that VAT at the prevailing german rate (currently 19%) will be added to the buyer's premium which will be invoiced on a VAT exclusive basis. If you are planning to export, please make the department aware. Lot to be sold without reserve.
