He truly hit his stride in the 1950s. Wilder again directed him in Stalag 17 (1953), for which he won the Best Actor Oscar. Later in his career, Holden would say that only one out of five films that he made were a pleasant experience, and in only one out of ten films did he feel any real sense of accomplishment. The directors who chose him for their films and the audiences who flocked to see them would disagree with that assessment of his achievements. 8 x 10 in. or smaller Footnotes: The collection of Paramount Pictures set stills that is being offered in this auction is an extraordinary historical archive from the late 1920s to the early 1970s.
