Arthur Rackham (British, 1867-1939) 'I recognised my fair cousin Baby, who with a younger brother, was taking an evening walk' Illustration for Charles O'Malley, The Irish Dragon by Charles Lever, published 1897 Signed and dated 'A Rackham / 96' (lower right) Pen and black ink, with highlights in white 28.5 x 21cm (11 1/4 x 8 1/4in). Footnotes: Set during the Peninsula War (1808-1814), Charles Lever drew on his own experiences and friends when writing Charles O'Malley, The Irish Dragoon. Originally published in monthly instalments from March 1840 to November 1841, Rackham's illustrated edition was published in 1897 and amply depicted 'the vivid, rollicking adventures of military life and hard-drinking fox-hunting Irish society.' This was one of his earliest illustrated books and consisted of sixteen black and white illustrations. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
