Daniel O'Neill (Irish, 1920-1974) Landscape, Lough Swilly, Co. Donegal oil on board 51 x 61 cm. (20 x 24 in.) Footnotes: Provenance Gifted to the present owner, May 1980 Private Collection, U.K. Exhibited London, Arthur Tooth, Today & Yesterday, Some Important Contemporaries, 1953, Cat. No. 14 Landscape, Lough Swilly, Co. Donegal was completed when O'Neill was on a sketching trip to Lough Swilly in 1952. That same year O'Neill held his first solo exhibition in London at Arthur Tooth & Sons Ltd , 31 Bruton Street London, and as a result of his success with the gallery, Tooth's arranged for permanent representation for him and included him in their annual 'To-day & Yesterday' exhibitions between 1952-58. This painting, Landscape, Lough Swilly, (Co. Donegal) was exhibited in their 'Today & Yesterday, Some Important Contemporaries' in 1953. We are grateful to Karen Reihill for her assistance in cataloguing this work.
