A JADE PENDANT, HUANG Eastern Zhou Dynasty/Warring States Period Of flat arched shape, the huang carved on both sides with raised spiral grain pattern, terminating in a stylised dragon-head to each side, drilled with a small aperture at the top of the arch for suspension. 13.8cm (5 1/2in) long. Firstly, it was utilized in rituals to worship the Black Warrior of the North, xuanwu (玄武). Secondly, it was worn as a pendant, serving both as an emblem of virtue and a symbol of rank. See Na Zhiliang, Zhongguo guyu tushi 中國古玉圖釋, Taipei, 1995, pp.145-146. Buyers' Premium and Charges

28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
