[ROUPELL (ARABELLA E.)] Specimens of the Flora of South Africa by a Lady, FIRST EDITION, 9 hand-coloured plates by Roupell (including decorative title) and one large unnumbered hand-coloured vignette, all lithographed by P. Gauci, list of subscribers (103 names for 111 copies), preface, dedication leaf to Wallich, and 8 leaves of descriptive text, all on thick paper, variable spotting (quite heavy on plates 1 and 8), publisher's decorative cloth gilt lettered 'Cape Flowers by a Lady' within floral wreath decoration on upper cover, g.e., rebacked preserving some of spine, corners repaired, new endpapers, preserved in morocco-backed fleece-lined solander box [Nissen BBI 1687; Great Flower Books, p.134; Mendelssohn II:254], large folio (576 x 455mm.), [W. Nichol, Shakespeare Press, 1849] Footnotes: Arabella Roupell travelled in Cape Colony between 1843 and 1845. There she met the botanist Nathaniel Wallich, who encouraged her to publish her drawings, as did Sir William Hooker, director of Kew Gardens, who made the selection of images to be included in Specimens. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
