Jenkinson, from the author April 1874' on the front free endpaper, half-title, illustrated throughout, browning, contents loose in publisher's cloth-backed colour-printed boards, covers detached, stained and worn, 8vo, Robert John Bush, 1872 Footnotes: INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR to S.G. Jenkinson, the British collector of tax and administrator for the region, who hosted Lear during a stay at Hardwar, India from 3-6 April 1874. In his journal Lear recorded that he and his manservant Giorgio were 'received directly by Mr. Jenkinson in the kindest manner. His mother, as also Lord Northbrook's, was a sister of Sir George Grey... Mr. Jenkinson drove me in a dogcart to Hard-war, doubtless one of the most curious places in India'. Over the next few days he was able to follow Jenkinson 'judging a murder case, butchers of Jehallipur', and on 5 April recorded 'went to see Mr. Jenkinson (having last night written a letter to Mrs. Jenkinson 'with an order for two books of Nonsense and a Corsica, small return for so much kindness), but he, having risen, had gone to bed again...' (quoted in Edward Lear's Indian Journal, edited by Ray Murphy, 1953). Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
