October 1907 to September 1908 [nos. 1-29], 4-page index before additional pictorial title, illustrations throughout, with the 2 inserted supplementary portraits of Emmeline Pankhurst and Emmeline Pethick Lawrence, toned and slightly brittle as usual, final leaf of advertisements re-inserted with small losses to inner margin, sheet with autograph signature of CHRISTABEL PANKHURST and names George Lansbury, Evelyn Sharp and Barbara Ayrton-Gould pasted inside upper cover, later maroon and white cloth preserving the original pictorial upper cover (worn) [PMM 398], folio, The Reformer's Press, 1907-1908 Footnotes: Complete first volume of the 'organ of the 'militants'' (PMM), the official publication of the Women's Social and Political Union, co-edited by Frederick and Emmeline Pethick Lawrence. Dedicated members of the WSPU, they even turned their home into a hospital for women returning from prison and recovering from hunger strikes, and both went to prison for their involvement, Emmeline on six occasions. One of these led to ideological differences between themselves and the Pankhursts, who subsequently ordered their expulsion from the organisation in 1912. The volume contains announcements for WSPU meetings and suffragist events, as well as planned protests and demonstrations, including the Hyde Park Protest on 21 June 1908 involving 300,000 activists. Also included are articles written by WSPU founder Emmeline Pankhurst and her daughters, Christabel and Sylvia. Pasted to the inside upper cover is a sheet signed by Christabel Pankhurst, above the names of George Lansbury, Evelyn Sharp and Barbara Ayrton-Gould, all prominent suffragettes and suffragists. Provenance: J. Drinkwater, ownership inscription dated 25 December, 1909 on title-page. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
