MOXON (JOSEPH) Mechanick Exercises, or the Doctrine of Handy-works. Began Jan. I 1677. And Intended to be Monthly Continued, vol. 1 (of 2), comprising Parts 1-14 in 1 vol., separate title-page to each part, with continuous pagination, 17 engraved plates (of 18, lacking plate to Number 1), lacks 4pp. preface, some parts misbound (1-3, 7-9, 4-7, 10-14), light dampstain for-corner of approx. 50 leaves [], Joseph Moxon, 1677-1680; Mechanick Dyalling: Teaching Any Man, though of Ordinary Capacity and Unlearned in the Mathematics, to Draw a True Sun-Dayl on any Given Plane, FIRST SEPARATE EDITION, wood-engraved illustrations in the text [ESTC R20066; Wing M3009], Joseph Moxon, 1668 [i.e. 1678], 2 works bound in 1 vol., contemporary panelled calf, rubbed, 4to, Joseph Moxon Footnotes: VERY RARE FIRST VOLUME OF MOXON'S MECHANICK EXERCISES. This volume was devoted to accounts of the trades of the smith, joiner, carpenter, and turner. A second volume, devoted to printing and typography, followed. The publication of Mechanick Exercises led to 'Moxon's election to the Royal Society in November 1678... remarkable for the fact that he was the first tradesman to join the fellowship, a precedent not repeated during the seventeenth century (ODNB). On the title-page of the first six parts Moxon is described as 'Hydrographer to the King's Most excellent Majesty', but from the seventh part onwards he added the honorific 'Member of the Royal Society'. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
