TWO FRAMED EUROPEAN DRAWINGS
TWO FRAMED EUROPEAN DRAWINGS Clara Montalba (British, 1842-1929), Venice (Vessels Docked near Santa Maria della Salute), inscribed 'Venice,' monogrammed 'CM' (overlapping), dated '75' lower right, pen and ink with wash on paper, 6 7/16 x 9 1/2 in.; and School of Guilio Romano (Italian, 1499-1546), Battle Scene with Roman Foot Soldiers, unsigned, pen and brown ink on paper, 14 x 9 in Footnotes: N.B. The unusual tipped up, flattened space and congested placement of figures in the Battle Scene may indicate that this work was copied from a relief on a triumphal arch or a decorative wall painting. The thin sheet on which it is drawn could suggest that it was a tracing. The work is thought to be from the 16-17th century. OVERALL CONDITION: Venice: with foxing, laid down on paperboard support. Battle Scene: sheet is lined, with losses at lower corners. Repairs evident from tape on the reverse. Toning, rippling, and pale foxing. This condition report is provided for your convenience based on the opinion of our cataloguers. It is not a comprehensive condition report and if you require more detailed information, please contact us. Lots are sold on an 'as is' basis, with all faults and imperfections.
