Josh Keyes (born 1969) Throne, 2010 signed with the artist's monogram and dated 2010; signed, titled and dated 2010 on the reverse acrylic on birch panel 76 x 101.5cm (29 15/16 x 39 15/16in). Footnotes: Provenance Private Collection, UK. Acquired from the above by the present owner in 2013 Portland-based artist Josh Keyes creates unsettling visions filled with hope, fear, and environmental anxiety. His works feature wild and often endangered animals roaming landscapes littered arbitrarily with man-made objects, prompting questions about human absence and the potential threat of apocalypse. His work addresses issues like urban expansion, deforestation and fossil fuel reliance, highlighting the need for enhanced faith in holistic approaches. Keyes' art underscores the interconnectivity of life and the impact of human activity on fragile ecosystems, presenting a world out of balance. Despite post-apocalyptic themes, his 'eco-surrealism' expresses hope for nature's restoration of the natural order.
