A good carved boxwood figure of Hercules South German or Austrian, probably late 17th/early 18th century The recumbent nude demi-god finely modelled, his bearded face gently upturned and turned slightly to sinister, his right hand resting on the hilt of his sword, lying upon a draped bank, his right arm resting on an urn, his feet crossed, 41cm long, 11cm high, 17cm deep overall Footnotes: For a comparable carved boxwood group of Hercules fighting the Nemean Lion carved in the manner of George Petel (German, circa 1601/2-1635), see Sothebys, Old Master Sculpture & Early Jewels, 7 December, 2021, lot 59.
