Gem-quality Pink Fluorite Carving of a Flamingo by Luis Alberto Quispe Aparicio A delicate flamingo, carved from a single specimen of gem-quality pink fluorite with high transparency, with a gross weight of 324.5 carats inclusive of the 18K gold vermeil legs. The inset beak is carved of bright hot pink tourmaline. The 18K yellow gold legs rest upon a base of ruby-in-zoisite from Tanzania, on a black obsidian base of oval outline. Measuring 5 x 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 in Footnotes: Luis Alberto Quispe Aparicio Following a second-generation family tradition in the fabrication of objets d'art, Luis' studio specializes in the carving of ruby. The second hardest stone after diamond, few artists have managed to successfully work this mineral since it requires a very advanced technique for carving and polishing. His works are displayed in museums in the United States and Europe and are enjoyed by private collectors around the world. Lot to be sold without reserve.
