Magnificent Aquamarine with Muscovite
Magnificent Aquamarine with Muscovite Nagar, Hunza Valley, Pakistan Aquamarine is blue variety of beryl that has been highly valued as a precious stone for thousands of years. Many ancient civilizations, such as the Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians, have used aquamarine in their jewelry. It derives its name from the Latin phrase for 'water of the sea' and was believed to be a mermaid treasure that protected sailors during their voyages. Although there are numerous aquamarine deposits worldwide, the finest specimens are primarily found in mines in Pakistan and Brazil. However, recovering intact specimens from Pakistan is challenging due to the steep, alpine terrain and those that are successfully retrieved must then adhere to the strict standards for quality. The present specimen is a breathtaking example exhibiting two robust aquamarine crystals, each measuring 5 1/2 in and 5 in tall. They are joined by a matrix of sharp, silvery-toned muscovite blades. Both aquamarine crystals shows lustrous and translucent, furthered by sea-blue coloring. The muscovite blades have a pearly luster and are large yet thin, giving them a delicate beauty that complements the gemmy crystals. This specimen boasts excellent quality, balanced composition with three dimensionality, and impactful size that make it a visually stunning centerpiece for any display. Magnificent specimen for a serious mineral collector. Measuring 7 x 7 x 2 1/2 in. Measuring 8 1/2 x 7 x 4 in with the base Footnotes: Accompanied by a custom-fitted acrylic base For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com For further information about this lot please visit the lot listing
