A French late 19th century mahogany and brass mounted table a ambulant in the Louis XVI style by A. Chevrie 1886-1889 The circular marbled leather or simulated leather top mounted with a brass engine turned edging, above a foliate and floral embellished Vitruvian scroll mounted frieze, on three fluted square section supports, with a platform undertier, on cabriole legs, with a printed paper label which reads: 'A. Chevrie, Fabricant de Meubles de Style et d'Ebenisterie d'Art, 7, Rue de Braque, Quartier des Archives a Paris, ci devant, 11 Rue Portefoin, Medaille de Bronze, 1878', approximate diameter of the top: 46cm; 80cm high. Footnotes: Provenance Property of a private UK collector. In 1878, A. Chevrie and his business is recorded as operating at 11, Rue Portefoin, and then from 1886 onwards this appears to have been based at 7 Rue Braque, where his cabinet making workshops and magasin were both thereafter located. The firm produced so called 'art furniture' and 'de petits meubles de style et fantaisies artistiques'. As stated on the printed paper label applied to the offered lot, Chevrie won the bronze medal for his involvement in the 1878 Paris Exposition Universelle. However, although he went on to obtain the silver medal at the 1889 Paris Exhibition where he also participated, interestingly this is not noted, as one would expect, upon the label herein. Consequently, the present table clearly dates to the specific period of 1886-1889. Later on, Chevrie was decorated with the Legion d'Honneur. See D. Ledoux-Lebard, Le Mobilier Francais Du XIXeme Siecle, 1989, Paris, p. 126.
