A Louis XV walnut bergere by Claude Louis Burgat (1717-1782) The shaped and channelled frames carved with flowers, scrolled foliate and rocaille, with a a shaped seat frame, on cabriole legs, stamped: 'C.L. BURGAT', 76cm wide x 74cm deep x 104cm high, (29 1/2in wide x 29in deep x 40 1/2in high) Footnotes: Provenance, The offered lot was acquired by the current owner and vendor from A. Metrot, Paris, 1993. Claude Louis Burgat recu maitre en 1744. Two comparable fauteuils and a bergere all made by Burgat, and each with similar carving to that on the present example, appear illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Francais du XIIIeme Siecle, 1989, Paris, pp.'s 124-125.
