A matched set of twelve George III and later mahogany dining chairs Nine chairs are late George III period (1795-1800), the other three chairs are apparently of a later date Four of the matched set of chairs have less carving and are of a very slightly different design to the other eight, including two armchairs, each with a tablet toprail above a vertical pointed arched splat formed of four ring turned reeded spindles and fan spandrels, on square tapering front legs terminating in spade feet, with square splayed rear legs, replaced arms to one of the armchairs, each armchair approximately: 54cm wide x 53.5 deep x 90cm high; each side chair approximately: 50.5cm wide x 50cm deep x 89cm high, (19 1/2in wide x 19 1/2in deep x 35in high) (12) Footnotes: Some designs for similar dining chairs to the offered examples, which date to approximately the same period, can be found amongst the drawings in the Gillow Estimate Sketch Books, City of Westminster Archive Centre.
