A pair of 19th century French gilt bronze candlesticks After the models by Etienne Martincourt (French, 1735-1791) The acanthus cast candle nozzles with stiff leaf rims above rams head and fruiting leaf swept tripartite supports terminating in goats hoof feet flanking a spiral reeded central support interspaced by fruiting leaves, each raised on an elaborate ribbon tied and fruiting foliate cast pierced swept circular base with acanthus cast border and bell husk tripartite panel supports, above guilloche borders on paw feet, 28.5cm high, 12.9cm wide (2) Footnotes: For a comparable pair of candlesticks, dated to circa 1830, see Christies, The Collection of Peggy and David Rockerfeller, Part One, 9th May, 2008, Lot 311.
