Hans C. Guradze (Russian/German, 1861-1922): An early 20th century patinated bronze figural group of an amorous couple seated in a horse drawn by hay bale wagon The whole raised on a rectangular naturalistic base signed C.GURADZE and mounted on a veined marble plinth base, 27cm high, 51cm long, 19cm wide overall Footnotes: The German sculptor Hans Guradze was born in Silesia and was educated at the Royal Academy of Arts in Dresden and Berlin where he created numerous sculptural composition. In his early life Guradze was heavily influenced by Russian sculptors and he was especially attracted to the theme of working horses which is reflected in many of his works. In addition he also often featured the Russian troika in his works which he regarded as a symbol of national traditionalism.
