George Lane (British), A collection of pre-War motoring illustrations, comprising 'Stutz Black Hawk Land Speed Record 1928', gouache, charcoal and wash heightened with white, depicting Frank Lockhart in the Stutz prior to his tragic demise at the Land Speed Record attempt at Daytona Beach on 25th April 1928, 26 x 45cm; and 'Shuttleworth Leads Bira', ink and wash heightened with white, depicting Richard Shuttleworth in the Alfa Romeo Type B leading Prince Bira in the ERA B-Type at the 1935 Donington Grand Prix, 21 x 35cm, with publishers stamp and annotations to reverse; each mounted, framed and glazed, together with four more framed illustrations, and the remainder matted for framing or loose, signed 'George Lane','G.Lane', 'Lane' or initialled 'G.L', comprising a greetings card design on scraperboard pasted with title 'With Best Wishes from George Lane'; the remainder pen and ink or wash on artists' board, depicting various pre-War motoring scenes including 'Mistaken Identity', cartoon illustration of Charles Martin, caricatures of Brooklands drivers Charles Mortimer and Gerald Sumner, and other motoring scenes of a mainly humourous nature, the largest measuring 17 x 24.5cm.
