A PURPLE-SPLASHED KINTSUGI-REPAIRED JUN BOWL China, Ming dynasty or later Deep bowl-form, with a burnished foot rim. 2 1/2in (6.3cm) high (Japanese wrapping cloth and box). Footnotes: Provenance: Collection of Col. Dean S. Hartley, Jr., USMC (1920-2010), by descent to the present owner. Col. Hartley was a scholar who published several articles on Asian art and, with his wife, Roth Hartley, collected Asian works of art from the mid-1950s until 2001. It bears a Hartley's inventory number and three stickers around the foot, including a rectangular one, reading 'Lent by,' with a handwritten name, Rutherston, and a number; a round one, reading 'CLR,' with a handwritten number; and a rectangular one reading 'New Zealand Chinese Art Exhibition 1936,' with a handwritten no.
