(on the reverse of the panel) oil on panel 24.0 x 32.5 cm (9 7/16 x 12 13/16 in). framed 38.0 x 45.5 x 6.0 cm (15 x 17 7/8 x 2 3/8 in). Follower of Pieter Neefs I (Dutch, c. 1578-1656/1661), 18th/19th century Cathedral Interior with a Preacher and a Crowd signed with the monogram 'FH' (lower left) 19.0 x 23.0 cm (7 1/2 x 9 in). framed 37.0 x 41.0 x 6.0 cm (14 5/8 x 16 1/8 x 2 3/8 in). Footnotes: N.B. This work has been examined via digital images by the Netherlands Institute for Art History (RKD). The original work by François Étienne Villeret is held at the Musée Massey in Tarbes (inv. no. 860.4.2). The original work by Pieter Neefs I which most closely resembles the present lot is held at the Wallace Collection in London (inv. P152).
