British-Style Leaf Carved American Fowler, c. 1765. 53 1/2 in., .72 caliber octagon to round Spanish barrel with proof marks at the breech and engraved foliate decoration, transitioning to round 15 in. from the breech, with top flat extending beyond the brass blade front sight; convex British commercial lock with double line border engraving and foliate scroll engraving on the pointed tail and below the pan, marked 'IC' on the inside; tiger maple stock with relief carving around the lock mortice and side plate plateau, relief leaf pattern carving around the trigger guard, breech plug tang and entry pipe, and relief carving along the barrel and rammer channels; brass furniture including a trigger guard with leaf finial and foliate engraving on the bow, butt plate with foliate engraving on the stepped tang, thumb piece engraved 'RVD,' foliate and vine engraving on the flat side plate, three sheet brass rammer pipes and an entry pipe; wood rammer. Overall lg. 69 1/4 in. Condition: barrel and lock toned to deep brown; stock is spliced 21 3/8 in. from the muzzle and has a sliver loss along the right side of the barrel channel; brass toned to yellow.
