Early Hudson Valley Fowler, c. 1710. 61 5/8 in., .74 caliber barrel with ring decorated breech with an Amsterdam mark on the left side, ring decoration at about 12 1/2 in. from the breech then with a barrel top flat forward to the brass blade front sight; curved Dutch lock with convex surface and no pan bridle; tiger maple stock with massive butt and thick wrist, relief carving around the lock mortice, side plate plateau, breech plug tang, trigger guard, and barrel and rammer channels; brass furniture including a trigger guard with sculpted arrow finials and reeded bow, butt plate with long point and lobe outlined with punched dots, a Dutch shield form thumb piece, openwork serpent side plate, three faceted sheet brass rammer pipes and a faceted sheet brass entry pipe; wood rammer. Overall lg. 78 1/2 in. Condition: Barrel and lock toned to deep brown, vent is bushed; stock has old wood repair above the lock and below the front of the lock mortice, there is a tight crack through the stock following the wood grain just forward of the entry pipe, and there may be some wood restoration in the forward approx. ten inches of the fore stock; brass is toned to deep yellow, tang of the entry pipe is partially missing.
