Flintlock Screw-Barrel Pocket Pistol, Thomas Lane, London, England, second quarter of the 18th century. 4 1/2 in., .60 caliber round cannon muzzle barrel, iron frame with London proof marks and Lane's mark on the underside, the right side of the frame engraved with foliate scrolls and drum, the left side engraved 'T.LANE' within a rococo cartouche and panoply of flags, sliding trigger guard half-cock safety, walnut grip with scrolling silver wire inlay. Overall lg. 10 1/2 in. Saleroom notices: The proof marks on the underside of the pistol are those used in Birmingham, not London, England, thus the pistol is unlikely to be the work of Thomas Lane of London.
