Giuseppe Zocchi (Italian, 1711-1767) Scelta di XXIV Vedute delle principale Contrade, Piazze, Chiese e Palazzi della Città di Firenze various engravers, including Giuseppe Vasi, Carlo Gregori and Bernardo Sgrilli ten etchings with engraving from the series, including the title page, after Zocchi's original drawings, from the second edition published in 1754 by Giuseppe Bouchard, Florence, on double sheets of laid paper Sheets 515 x 698 (20 1/4 x 27 3/8in) (10) Footnotes: Giuseppe Zocchi was a draughtsman, painter and etcher, best known for his views of Florence. The Scelta de XXIV Vedute was commissioned by his patron Marchese Andrea Gerini with the aim of presenting the most beautiful views and aspects of Florentine life. These were executed by several engravers and the work was dedicated to Maria Theresa of Austria, who was born in Florence. The series was widely admired and became a template for similar views of other cities such as Venice and Rome.
