An Italian third quarter 19th century specimen marble, hardstone and micromosaic table top by Constantino Rinaldi Set on a late 19th century painted cast-iron stand The black marble top inlaid with assorted flowers and foliage, within a radially segmented border comprised of twenty-eight specimens of various marbles and hardstones including malachite, breche d'alep, verte maurin, Sicilian jasper, lapis lazuli and Spanish brocatelle, on an acanthus and fluted baluster column, with a reeded collar terminating in a plinth base, the underside of the specimen top with a printed paper label which reads: 'Constantin Rinaldi, Mosaiciste, en face des Bains, 125 au Babuino', diameter of the top: 56cm; 75.5cm high. Footnotes: The label applied to the underside of the top on the offered lot refers to Constantino Rinaldi, who was a renowned mosaicist based in Rome during the second half of the 19th century. His father, Gioacchino, had also been famed for his skill in this field. From the mid 19th century onwards the workshop of Constantino Rinaldi is recorded as having been located at 125 Via del Babuino, which is the same as appears printed on the above, albeit in this case a francisized version of this address. Clearly the micromosaic work inset to the centre of the present example is of a very high quality, in line with the other documented output of the two Rinaldis. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: TP TP For auctions held in Scotland: Lots will be moved to an offsite storage location (Constantine, Constantine House, North Caldeen Road, Coatbridge ML5 4EF, Scotland, UK) and will only be available for collection from this location at the date stated in the catalogue.
