A late 19th century Italian verdigris patinated bronze figure of Narcissus After the antique, probably Naples The nude curly haired youth wearing a wreath, his right hand pointing upwards, his left shoulder draped by a goat skin wine sack, on circular base, 36.4cm high, 15.5cm diameter Footnotes: The figure of Narcissus is after the Roman bronze original excavated from Pompeii in 1862, now in the Museo Nazionale, Naples. Like many important discoveries from Pompeii, the figure was widely copied during the 19th century on behalf of Grand Tour travellers. A version cast by M.
