After the antique: An Italian bronze figure of Narcissus cast by A. Röhrich, Rome Probably mid-19th century The nude figure modelled in contrapposto with downcast face, his curling hair dressed with fruiting bandeau, his right arm raised with upheld index finger, his left shoulder draped in an animal skin, the hand resting on his hip, his sandalled feet on circular base, engraved to the edge A. Röhrich, Roma, 62cm high approximately Footnotes: The Röhrich foundry in Rome appears to have been active producing good quality models of antique style bronzes from the closing years of the late 18th century to the first half of the 19th century. Probably competing with the workshop of Benedetto Boschetti for the affluent tourist trade of the day, a comparable bronze figure of an athlete also signed A. Röhrich and dated to circa 1840 sold Christies, The Contents of Harrington House, Leamington Spa, 4th May 2000, Lot 53.
