THE STONEMASON INSCRIBED TO ANNIE DELISLE. MCCARTHY, CORMAC. 1933-2023. The Stonemason. New York: Ecco Press, 1994. 8vo. Publisher's black cloth over gray-paper boards, publisher's pictorial dust jacket. Provenance: Cormac McCarthy, presentation inscription to: Anne DeLisle (with her ownership inscription to paste-down). FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY FOR ANNIE DELISLE, 'For Annie, With much love, from Cormac.' McCarthy's play, a meditation on the ethic of work and craftsmanship, bears a particularly apt relationship to his second wife Annie DeLisle. Upon returning to the U.S., DeLisle and McCarthy bought a dilapidated dairy farm in Louisville, TN, which they renovated themselves. Annie tells the story of Cormac building a giant winch to haul large palettes of stone up the hill to the barn, where he performed the stonework himself. A wonderful association copy, bearing witness to McCarthy's own work ethic and dedication to craftsmanship. Saleroom notices: Note that this is a 2nd printing, in the 2nd issue jacket.
