WARWICKSHIRE AND LEICESTERSHIRE. SAXTON, CHRISTOPHER. c.1540-1610. Warwic, Lecestriæq[ue] comitat' ciuitat' oppidor'u villaru' flumin'u ceterarumq[ue] rerum omnium in eisdem memorabilium noua veraq[ue] descriptio. London: 1576 or later. Engraved map, outlined and highlighted in color, 390 x 530 mm overall, on 2 sheets, with paper reinforcement on verso, re-margined at bottom, with some in-painting of decorative border, a few small edge chips, light spotting. This map was one of those included in Saxton's atlas of England and Wales. An exact publication date of the atlas, and whether the maps were issued individually or sold as a complete atlas are details that have been obscured by time, but it is clear that most of Saxton's maps were engraved from his drawings by Dutch mapmakers—in this case Lenaert Terwoort in Antwerp, who has included the date 1576 withe the notation 'D El'yzabethe Reginae 18.'
