VANCOUVER, GEORGE. 1757-1798. Voyage de Decouvertes, a l'Ocean Pacifique du Nord, et Autour du Monde,... 1790...1795. Traduite de l'Anglais by P.F. Henry; et accompagne d'un Atlas... Tome Premier [- Sixieme]. Paris: Didot Jeune, An X [1801/1802]. 6 volumes including atlas. 8vo (197 x 121 mm). 9 maps, 8 of which are folding, 17 engraved plates. Later 19th century green boards, spine lettered in gilt, atlas volume in modern boards, spine lettered in gilt. Some stray spots, repair to outer margin of 2nd volume, pp 71-72, briefly affecting text, piece torn from fore-edge margin of pp 287/8 not affecting text, 3rd volume with some tiny wormholes not affecting text, boards rubbed, mainly at spine, corners with some wear. FIRST FRENCH OCTAVO EDITION. Vancouver spent much time on the coasts of California and the Pacific Northwest, compiling some of the first accurate charts of the area.
