PRESENTATION COPY OF THE STOCK TRADING CLASSIC. LIVERMORE, JESSE L. 1877-1940. How to Trade in Stocks. New York: Duell, Sloan & Pearce, 1940. 8vo. 16 color charts. Publisher's blue cloth, with Livermore Market-Key crest in silver to upper cover, spine lettered in silver, publisher's slipcase. Provenance: Jesse Livermore, presentation inscription to Henry J. Taylor; by descent; Private Collection. A FINE FIRST EDITION, DELUXE ISSUE, limited to 500 copies, RARE PRESENTATION COPY TO HENRY J. TAYLOR, noted economist, diplomat, and journalist. Widely regarded as the greatest stock trader of the 20th-centurty, Jesse Lauritsen Livermore made (and lost) a number of fortunes, based on his trading strategy and the Livermore Market-Key, much of which is still in use today. His only book, How to Trade in Stocks was published in 1940, just months before his death the same year, and shares the keys to Livermore's strategy and success. Henry J. Taylor was an economist, who found some fame first as an author, and then for his conservative, capitalism-friendly commentary on his radio show with General Motors, Your Land and Mine. In 1957, he was appointed by Eisenhower as the U.S. Ambassador to Switzerland. Presentation copies of Livermore's Wall Street classic are exceedingly rare, particularly as he passed away in the year of its publication, and this a fine, bright copy with an important association.
