BLAKE, WILLIAM. 1757-1827. Illustrations to the Book of Job. The Engravings and related material with Essays, Catalogue of States and printings, Commentary on the Plates and Documentary Record by David Bindman, Barbara Bryant, Robert Essick, Geoffrey Keynes and Bo Lindberg. London: The William Blake Trust, 1987. 4 volumes. Folio (395 x 305 mm). Contained in two large slipcases, the first housing the text volume, and a portfolio of plates, including all 21 plates in several states, 21 fascicules, and a plate-by-plate commentary by Bo Lindberg; the second slipcase houses The Colour Versions of the Book of Job from the Circle of John Linnell, the text volume, and three separate volumes of illustrations, all bound in quarter-morocco, with solander boxes fitted inside each slipcase, light spotting to spines, but overall, nearly fine copies. Provenance: Steve Bales (bookplate). WITH: Jerusalem. London: Trianon Press, [1951]. 5 volumes, publisher's blue wrappers and folding box, #134/512 copies, light soiling to wrappers, wear to cloth box, very good; WITH: The Song of Los. London: Trianon Press, 1976. #202/480 copies, quarter morocco, slipcase, very good condition. LIMITED EDITION, no 16 of 250 copies of the standard edition of this elaborate publication. The crowning achievement of Arnold Fawcus and the Trianon Press, who beginning in 1950 produced the famous series of Blake facsimiles. Illustrations to the Book of Job was printed around 1974, but remained unassembled until 1987, when the sheets were bound up in the present form by Smith Settle of Otley, Yorkshire. A magnificent production, sold with two more fine examples of Blake's works from the Trianon Press. Lot to be sold without reserve.
