A META REBNER WORKING SCRIPT OF THE STALKING MOON. SARGENT, ALVIN. Mimeographed Manuscript, 'The Stalking Moon,' 138 pp plus 6 pp cast and crew list and 19 pp of post-production records, 4to, [Los Angeles], December 15, 1967, heavily annotated throughout in pencil by Rebner and with small (33 x 40 mm) gelatin silver print photos laid down throughout, bound with brads, some thumbing and toning throughout. A wonderful artifact of the production for Alan J. Pakula's western, The Stalking Moon, which reunited Pakula, director Robert Mulligan, actor Gregory Peck and script supervisor Meta Rebner, who had all worked together on To Kill a Mockingbird six years previously. The Stalking Moon tells the story of Sam Varner (Gregory Peck), a retiring Indian Scout who rounds up a last group of Native Americans only to find a white woman and her son among the group. In his efforts to return her to her family, the chief who is the father of her child harasses them until Sam challenges him in a final showdown. Rebner's notes are meticulous, and the small photographs taped to her pages that record costumes, actor position, or scene layout are fascinating to review.
