Two George VI limed-oak Coronation stools, 1937 The limed-oak frame with dished seat upholstered in aged green velvet, trimmed with gold braid, on chamfered square-section legs on block feet, underside stamped with GVI cypher, with later supporting brackets, 45.5cm wide x 31cm deep x 47.5cm high, (17 1/2in wide x 12in deep x 18 1/2in high) (2) Footnotes: The Coronation of His Majesty King George VI took place at Westminster Abbey on Wednesday 12 May 1937. This date was originally selected for the coronation of his brother, Edward VIII. After Edward's abdication in December 1936 it was agreed that the coronation ceremony for George VI would remain on this day. Condition Report Minor chips, scuffs and scratches. Joints slightly loose to one stool. Minor wear, marks and stains to velvet upholstery. Some bleaching. Minor historical repairs to upholstery. Replacements to fringing.
