Cecil Beaton (British, 1904-1980) A study of a costume design for Katharine Hepburn as Gabrielle Chanel for the 1969 Broadway musical Coco Full-length Ink wash with watercolour 35.2 x 27.8cm (13 7/8 x 10 15/16in). Footnotes: Provenance The Hon. Stephen Tennant. Sotheby's, Wiltshire, The Contents of Wilsford Manor, Wilsford Manor, 14-15 October 1987, where purchased. Coco was the 1969 Broadway musical which immortalised Chanel's story. Cecil Beaton designed both the set and costumes for the production.
