A Fine Tlingit Seal Grease Bowl. Northwest Coast, Canada, ca Late 19th Century.An expertly carved Tlingit wooden grease vessel depicting a seal and octopus on each side of the body, the seal's eyes and teeth embellished with shell inserts, and the back with small beads; the bottom marked with old collector’s surname Whip. A beautiful and well preserved example. Provenance: From a British gentleman’s private collection. Condition: Very good overall, two missing inserts. 38cm long.
