/ 1890, Bohemia / Oil on canvas / Marked lower left "A. Kirnig", lower right "Münchengrätz 1890" / 25 x 42 cm
Kirnig was one of the youngest students of Max Haushofer, a painter based in Munich and professor at the Academy of Fine Art in Prague. In the spirit of his teacher, Kirnig opened a school of landscape painting in Prague in 1866. The composition, color and style of Kirnig's painting "Münchengrätz" testify to his landscape painting skills. From the assessment by PhDr. Naděžda Blažíčková-Horová: "As Münchengrätz shows, in the 1890s Kirnig started to depart from lyricism and moodiness and moved towards creating an objective record of seen reality ... This painting is a beautiful work featuring impressively composed, picturesque scenery and spectacular color and is unquestionably one of his best works." Expert assessment by PhDr. Naděžda Blažíčková-Horová.
